In order to discharge the contaminated land planning condition attached to the decision notice for the proposed development, Demeter Environmental were commissioned to prepare a desk study report for the site.
The site had previously been open land with a number of buildings identified on the 1959 map. The walkover survey revealed the site to comprise of open land and the hand held boreholes revealed made ground (demolition rubble).
A number of in-filled ponds were also identified on the historical maps, all of which were discounted as credible sources of ground gases.
As made ground was identified on the site, a limited site investigation was proposed comprising of four trial pits. The desk study report was submitted in July 2010 (10/00612/DIS) and the contaminated land planning condition was discharged.
